Tejashwi Yadav Detained During NEET Protests in Patna

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar assembly and prominent RJD leader, faced detention in Patna on Wednesday while leading a protest march against police actions related to the recent NEET exam paper leak protests.

The incident unfolded near the Income Tax office, where police officials, including SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, placed Yadav in a police vehicle to control the protests. Yadav criticized the government’s handling of the situation, claiming, “The government is pushing the future of students into darkness. Exam papers are getting leaked frequently.”

Earlier in the day, Yadav and a group of RJD leaders and workers commenced their march from JP Golambar towards Lok Bhavan, advocating for accountability in the examination process. This mobilization came in response to the recent police violence during student protests, where authorities faced backlash for their heavy-handed tactics.

Police deployed water cannons to disperse the RJD protesters as they attempted to breach barricades along the route. The situation escalated quickly, reflecting a broader discontent among students regarding examination integrity and transparency.

In his statement during the protest, Yadav emphasized the need to acknowledge the sentiments of Generation Z, stating, “The government used AK-47 rifles against the protesting students in Bihar, and pellet guns and nail-embedded batons against them in Delhi, just because they demanded an honest and transparent examination system.” His comments resonate with many young Indians who seek justice and fair treatment in academic evaluations.

Recent events involving student protests linked to the NEET examination have revved up discussions about the government’s role in maintaining examination integrity in India. Critics argue that frequent leaks and police repression during demonstrations threaten the rights of students to voice their concerns safely.

The use of aggressive measures against peaceful protesters raises questions about the government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and addressing the genuine fears of students regarding educational opportunities. Yadav’s detention has sparked further outrage among students and political leaders, prompting calls for reform and better oversight of the examination process.

The RJD has vowed to continue raising its voice until the authorities adequately address these systemic issues within the education sector. With tensions running high, the outcome of the protests remains uncertain, but the students’ drive for change is palpable and growing.
