Northern Railway Operates Special Train Between Srinagar and Katra for Stranded Passengers

In a major relief measure for passengers affected by the continued closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Northern Railway on Friday operated a special train between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, enabling the safe evacuation of more than 600 stranded passengers.

The special train was introduced after the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed due to incessant rainfall, landslides and shooting stones at several vulnerable locations, severely disrupting road connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.

Railway officials said the special service was launched as an emergency measure to facilitate the movement of stranded travellers and minimise the inconvenience caused by the prolonged highway closure.

The train transported over 600 passengers from the Valley to Katra, providing much-needed relief to those who had been unable to continue their journey by road.

Meanwhile, restoration work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is continuing at multiple affected stretches. However, continuous rainfall has slowed debris clearance and repair operations.

Officials have advised travellers to keep track of the latest traffic and railway advisories before planning their journey, as weather conditions continue to impact transportation across Jammu and Kashmir.
