Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned on Friday due to continuous protests from Opposition members, primarily over the NEET paper leak and allegations surrounding Ram temple donation theft. The adjournment reflects ongoing tensions as the House struggles to maintain order amid escalating dissent.
During the tumultuous session, the House managed to pass the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without any debate. Papers listed for the day and reports from various Parliamentary committees managed to be tabled, albeit in a disruptive environment.
Opposition members demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding police actions during the recent student protests triggered by the NEET paper leak controversy. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that it was not the prerogative of the Opposition to dictate which minister would address the session. He pointed out that Home Minister Shah consistently attends Parliament and stays until late at night to fulfill his duties.
Rijiju’s remarks aimed to defuse tensions, urging the protesting members to halt what he termed a “drama” that disrupted House proceedings. He stated, “Home Minister Shah comes to Parliament every day and stays till late night. Members should stop disrupting the House.”
While Dilip Saikia chaired the proceedings, he encouraged the protesting members to resume their seats and allow the House to function properly. “Please go to your seats. Please cooperate,” he urged, hoping to restore some semblance of order.
Nevertheless, the protests continued unabated. As a result, Zero Hour adjourned after only 16 minutes and the Lok Sabha will reconvene on Monday. The earlier Question Hour also saw disruption, leading to proceedings being continuously adjourned until noon due to the Opposition’s protests.
The Monsoon session, which began on July 20, has faced incessant disruptions due to widening gaps between the ruling party and the Opposition. Various key issues, particularly those affecting students and community sentiments, have intensified confrontations in Parliament.
As the situation unfolds, both sides show no signs of backing down. The ongoing tug-of-war highlights the critical need for dialogue to address pressing issues effectively. With the Lok Sabha set to resume on Monday, many eyes will be watching for any signs of resolution or further escalation.
