Sarfaraz Khan Joins Team India for Sri Lanka Test Series

Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan has officially joined the Team India camp for the first Test against Sri Lanka, set to commence on August 15 in Galle. His inclusion follows the unfortunate injury of number three batsman Sai Sudharsan, who has been ruled out of the entire series.

By stepping in for Sudharsan, Sarfaraz brings a wealth of recent domestic experience to the team. He posted a new selfie showcasing his fit physique on Instagram, celebrating his commitment to fitness over recent months.

Sarfaraz last represented India in a Test match against New Zealand in November 2024, a challenging series that resulted in India’s first home loss in a dozen years. However, he made a debut earlier that year against England, demonstrating his potential at the international level.

In total, Sarfaraz has played six Tests, accumulating 371 runs at an average of 37.10. His record includes a century and three fifties, with a highest score of 150, indicating his capability to contribute significantly to the team’s batting lineup.

Taking a glance at his domestic performances, Sarfaraz enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 429 runs in seven Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 53.62, including a century and a fifty. His performance during the T20 format in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was even more commendable, where he amassed 329 runs in seven innings with an average of 65.80 and a staggering strike rate of 203.09.

In the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, Sarfaraz continued to shine with 303 runs in six matches, averaging 75.75. These standout performances earned him a contract with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), although his stint in the IPL saw him score 161 runs across seven innings, falling short of expectations.

Recently, Sarfaraz also showcased his skills in the Mumbai T20 League for Aakash Tigers MWS, scoring 161 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 32.20 and a remarkable strike rate of 214.67.

As the Test series against Sri Lanka approaches, India is currently fifth in the World Test Championship standings. The team has recorded four wins against four losses from nine matches, leading to a Points Percentage (PCT) of 48.150.

The updated squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka features Shubman Gill as Captain, with KL Rahul as Vice-Captain. Other notable inclusions are Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and, of course, Sarfaraz Khan.
