Sonia Gandhi Accuses PM Modi of Deliberate Financial Strangulation of Congress

New Delhi, March 21: Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of orchestrating a deliberate financial assault on the Indian National Congress, labeling it as “unprecedented and undemocratic.” Alongside Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi at a press conference, Sonia Gandhi stated, “A systematic effort is underway by the Prime Minister to cripple the Indian National Congress financially.”

She highlighted the freezing of accounts and the forced extraction of funds from the party’s coffers, asserting, “Funds collected from the public are being frozen and money from our accounts is being taken away forcibly.” Despite these challenges, she affirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining the effectiveness of its election campaign.

Sonia Gandhi also criticized the BJP government over the electoral bond issue, which has been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. She accused the BJP of benefiting significantly from electoral bonds while targeting the financial resources of the principal opposition party.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the freezing of the Congress party’s accounts, emphasizing the lack of a level playing field in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He warned that such actions could have far-reaching consequences and stressed the importance of conducting elections impartially for the preservation of democracy.

This latest attack on the BJP-led government precedes the Lok Sabha elections, the dates for which were recently announced. The Congress is gearing up to unveil its manifesto, which will be centered around 25 guarantees and the “Paanch NYAY” (five pillars of justice) announced during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
